Ponies vs. Money
Jan. 6th, 2012 12:17 pmSo, it turns out that I bought 54 ponies in 2011, a dozen of which were custom baits, and not counting the few I received as gifts. I'm... not sure how I feel about this number. It seems like an unconscionable amount (although several people on the Arena numbered their 2011 purchases in the triple digits), and yet at the same time it's never enough, ha.
And I set aside a portion of my xmas money specifically for ponies, so I've got 7 on the way already so far for 2012. I got a damn good price on them, and one is a set completer and another two are grails of mine. And yet, I feel sort of guilty.
Despite my shiny college degree and a humble yet valuable list of skills, I've been unemployed for... um, well, long enough for my unemployment benefits to run out. I had to move back in with my parents last year. I have a dog to feed, and a list of charities and causes I like to throw money at a couple times a year.
But my dog is small, and I currently have enough food stocked up to last him until early summer. And I went on a round of charity donations around the holidays. And I'm not much of a strain on my parents' finances, especially since my father just got a raise.
And dammit, ponies make me happy. And I budgeted for them. And I did not break budget. I was a good boy. In fact, before I found these ponies, I was inquiring about a Mountain Boy on the Arena, but declined, because this one pony cost the same amount as these 7 ponies put together. So I shopped value, on top of everything else.
So I will henceforth refuse to feel guilty.
