Picking and choosing
Jan. 13th, 2012 01:45 pmThe pony that shipped out from Oregon arrived a little earlier this week. It's the April MO Birthflower pony, Daisy. Not the expensive international kind, which I'll never be able to afford (and will probably make a custom of someday just for my own pleasure), but the US kind with the white body and pink hair. I think she's made friends with my restored Windy.
I'm not the sort of collector who will get a whole set just for the sake of having a whole set. I only get the ponies I want for the most part. And Daisy was the only Birthflower I wanted out of 12. See, it works for me. I'm an early Taurus and I like the simpler flowers, like daisies. Perfect.
When I compare this to, oh, sparkle ponies (the full adult SV set I'll have completed when my other package arrives), it feels different. I have a soft spot for sparkle ponies — I genuinely like them — but I'll admit that I bought two of them more so that I could have MOAR SPARKLES than because I was particularly enamored with those individual designs. I wasn't sure how it would feel to have a complete G1 set; I completed it out of curiosity, kinda. And yeah, it's sort of satisfying in a gluttonous way to have a full set.
But only choosing one pony out of a fairly extensive set? Makes it more special. More satisfying to own (and less detrimental to shelf/storage space).
Of course, this is partly conjecture, since I don't actually have the last sparkle in my immediate possession yet. I hypothesize that I will still feel the same way after her arrival, though. Let's call it an experiment.
Yah. Anyway, I want to photograph Daisy but it's been too overcast to get good lighting. Let me tell you, this is one clean pony. It's as (almost) spotlessly white as the Merry Treat that's spent most of its life in storage, and I don't think the hair has gotten the spa treatment but it looks and feels phenomenal anyway. Perfect symbols. Perfect eyes. I couldn't be happier with it.
It came from Shel-T on the Arena, who also sent me some stickers in the envelope because... apparently she's just a sweet person. Daisy also has a nice tail ribbon because... apparently Shel-T is just awesome. Fantastic communication, too. I definitely recommend her as a seller.
I'm still waiting on the other package, but that one's coming from Canada, so I don't expect it to be here all in a rush.
